Photos of Brooding

The cardboard ring surrounding these poults is called a draft guard, it is used to help protect the poults from drafts at floor level that we may not even notice. Some of the poults are eating from a cardboard egg flat, an arrangement that allows the young birds to walk on the feed, this helps them get started eating. After a few days the egg flats should be removed, make sure there is at least one inch of feeder space available per poult or chick until they are 4 weeks old.
Notice that these poults are fairly well distributed around the ring. This indicates they are comfortable, not too cold and not too hot.
