COURSE DESCRIPTION: Introduction to infectious diseases affecting livestock.
PURPOSE: Provide students with an introduction to infectious diseases and detail the animal husbandry practices influencing the host-pathogen interactions.
OBJECTIVES: Specific objectives for each student to accomplish include:
1. Identify the etiological agents responsible for major infectious diseases. 2. Understand the basic elements of immunological responses and host defenses systems against infections. 3. Identify environmental factors that influence exposure of pathogens to the host. 4. Determine the intrinsic factors that influence the host’s resistence to disease. 5. Outline management programs to prevent and control infectious diseases of economic importance to animal agriculture.
