DIRECTOR

 Dr. Yebo Li  (li.851@osu.edu, 330-263-3855, 330-202-3561) is an associate professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering (FABE), OSU/OARDC.  His research focuses on the development of innovative process for the production of biofuels and biobased products from renewable sources.   

 

 STAFF 

Ms.Zhe Liu (liu.884@osu.edu, 330-202-3533)  is a research associate in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, OSU/OARDC. Zhe works with several PIs in the department and she manages Dr. Li's lab (BBRL) and works with students on protocol development, designs and carries out experiments. She has education background on chemistry (B.S.) and food science (M.S.) and research background on environmental chemistry and molecular biology.

Mr. Mike Klingman (klingman.5@osu.edu, 330-202-3531) is a design engineer with the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, OSU/OARDC. He provides engineering support to the group to develop lab scale engineering systems for the production of bioenergy and bioproducts from renewable sources.  

Mrs. Mary Wicks (wicks.14@osu.edu, 330-202-3533) is a research associate with the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, OSU/OARDC. Mary works closely with Dr. Li on proposal development and preparation of manuscript and project reports. She  is also the coordinator for the Ohio Composting and Manure Management Program.

 POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS/VISITING SCHOLAR

Dr. Xumeng Ge (ge.162@osu.edu,330-202-3561) joined BBRL as a new postdoctoral researcher in January, 2013. Originally from Benxi (Liaoning Province, China), he received his Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering in 2005 from Dalian University of Technology. After working as a lecturer, he became an associate professor in 2008 where his research focused on the kinetics of ethanol fermentation with flocculating yeast as well as strategies for high-concentration ethanol fermentation. Dr. Ge came to the United States in 2009 to work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Arkansas Biosciences Institute (Arkansas State University)

Dr. Xiaolan Luo (luo.252@osu.edu, 330-202-3561) is a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Li's lab. Xiaolan received her Ph.D. from Fudan University, China. She joined Dr. Li's group after one year postdoc research at the University of South Carolina.  She is currently working on a biopolymer project.

Dr. Stephen Park (park.1148@osu.edu,330-202-3561) is currently a postdoc researcher working on biomass and bioenergy  after he receives his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. 

Dr. Feng Wang joined BBRL as a visiting scholar in September 2014 from Hunan Agricultural University. His primary research interests focus on biomass and bioenergy.

Dr. Fuqing Xu (xu,467@osu.edu,330-202-3561)  is currently a postdoc researcher working on anaerobic digestion after he receives his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. 

 GRADUATE STUDENTS 

Ms.  Yu Dang (dang.115@buckeyemail.osu.edu, 330-202-3561)  is a FABE Ph.D. Student under Dr. Yebo Li’s supervision. She joined Dr. Li's group in 2014 after receiving her bachelor degree in Polymer Science and Engineering from Sichuan University, China. She received the University Fellowship for her graduate study at OSU. Her current research focuses on the production of biopolyols and polyurethanes from renewable sources.

Mr. Adam Khalaf (adkhalaf.osu@gmail.com, 330-202-3561) is a FABE M.S. student under Dr. Yebo Li's supervision. He joined Dr. Li's group in 2014 after receiving his bachelor degree from FABE, OSU. He received the University Fellowship for his graduate study at OSU.

Ms. Long Lin (lin.1132@osu.edu, 330-202-3561) is a Ph.D. student in the Environmental Science Program at The Ohio State University under Dr. Yebo Li’s supervision. Long received her B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Science from Sun Yat-Sen University, China and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, respectively. She received the FAES Environmental Graduate Research Fellowship for her graduate study at OSU. Her current research focuses on solid state anaerobic digestion.

Ms. Shan Liu (liu.4671@osu.edu, 330-202-3561) is a joint training Ph.D. student between The Ohio State University and China Agricultural University. Her current research focuses on silage of Giant Reeds as a pretreatment method for anaerobic digestion.

Mr. Johnathon Sheets (sheets.162@osu.edu, 330-202-3561) is a FABE Ph.D. student under Dr. Yebo Li’s supervision. John received his Bachelor degree from Miami University and M.S. from FABE.. He joined Dr. Li's group in 2011. His current research focuses on biofuels production from algae.

Ms. Juliana Vasco (julianavasco@gmail.com, 330-202-3561) is a FABE Ph.D. student under Dr. Yebo Li’s supervision. Juliana joined Dr. Li's group in 2012 from Columbia where she received her M.S. in Biological Engineering. Her current research focuses on the biological conversion of miscanthus to fuels and chemicals. She received the 2012 Fulbright fellowship for her Ph.D. study at OSU.

Mr. Lu Zhang  (zhang.4730@osu.edu, 330-202-3561) is a Ph.D. student in the Food Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department at The Ohio State University under Dr. Yebo Li’s supervision.  Lu joined Dr. Li's group in 2014 from Jilin University where she received his B.S. and M.S.

INTERNS 

Taylor Jackwood graduated from Wooster High School and will be a current junior at The Ohio State University Main Campus this fall with a computer science major and physics minor. This is his fourth consecutive year working for the OARDC through the ORIP program. He has been working with Stephen Park to develop an algae growth model for open raceway ponds, and gathering data to test the model.

Selby Kaplan is sophomore at Denison University majoring Environmental Studies with a concentration in Chemistry. She did her summer internship in Dr. Li's lab in 2012 and 2013  working on biopolyols production from crude glycerol.

Joshua Sun  is currently working with Drs. Cong Li and Xumeng Ge on bio-based polyurethane foam and anaerobic digestion for biogas production, respectively. Josh graduated from Wooster High School and now is a junior in the University of Akron with a biomedical Engineering major and Business minor.
