Agricultural Animal Use and Care
Purpose: As required by the U.S. Public Health Service and the U. S. Department of Agriculture, The Ohio State University has established an Institutional Laboratory Animal Care and Use Committee (ILACUC). The ILACUC oversees OSU’s animal program, facilities, and procedures. It is responsible for ensuring that OSU complies with all applicable provisions of the Animal Welfare Act and other federal statutes and regulations relating to animals.
The ILACUC has delegated to the Agricultural Animal Care and Use Committee (AgACUC) the responsibility for ensuring that research and teaching activities involving agricultural species in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences meet the care and use requirements spelled out in the “Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Agricultural Research and Teaching.”
Committee Membership: Committee consists of:
1. Nine faculty members appointed by the Vice-President for Agricultural Administration for staggered three-year terms, including the College representatives to ILACUC. 2. The College attending veterinarian. 3. A non-OSU representative. 4. Ex-officio member is Head, of FAHRP (liaison to College Administration).
