The State of Ohio has initiated a new procedure for obtaining permits for tents erected on state property. OARDC will need to be in compliance with all procedures related to the use of tents on state property. The purpose of this policy is to lay out the guidelines for tents erected on OARDC/OSU property. This permit is issued by the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Industrial Compliance. Permits are required for all tents erected on state property which are more than 200 sq. ft. in size.
The OARDC Renovations Planning Office will obtain needed documents from the tent rental company and prepare and submit the application for the permit.
The cost to the using department/organization will be $150 to cover our costs for the preparation and filing of the application for the permit, this does not include the cost of the permit. The permit is an 11 page document, and we must submit a site plan, along with a staking plan, and the fire certificates from the tent. Currently (2009) the cost for a basic permit without electric is $228.25 and $403.25 with electric.
The using department/organization will be responsible for all costs associated with obtaining the permit.
The using department/organization will be responsible for the following:
Notifying The OARDC Renovations Planning Office at least 30 days in advance of the need for a permit, including tent size, location, intended use, and vendor who will be erecting the tent.
The using department/organization will be responsible for having fire extinguishers in the tent as required by Ohio Fire code (tent rental company should be able to provide this), along with no smoking signs.
If the tent will have side walls installed, OSU Police at Wooster must be contacted by using department/organization, and a fire watch must be instituted. (There may be a charge for this service).
The using department/organization will be responsible for posting the permit at the tent site, and scheduling and meeting with the inspectors.
