Soil Microbial Ecology Interest GroupSoil microbial ecology involves study of the interactions between microorganisms and their environment. There are many new techniques and theoretical advances to help improve our understanding of the principles governing these interactions. With the application of molecular techniques, we are now able to identify new "unculturable" microbial strains, new genes, study the evolution of organisms, and explore the function of microbial genomics on the succession and the protection of microorganisms in the environment. The result will be a better understanding of processes that can benefit agricultural and improve environmental quality. There are many labs at the OARDC engaging in soil microbial ecology studies. To promote the development of research in soil microbial ecology at OARDC, and to stimulate the exchange of ideas, we would like to organize a working group at OARDC which would involve regular meetings and a seminar series. We will hold the first meeting at 3:30PM on September 15 (Wednesday) in the conference room (Room 123 ) of Williams Hall and anyone interested in soil microbial ecology is warmly welcomed. Your involvement will be required to make this effort a success. If you cannot attend the planning meeting but are interested in being involved in the working group, please leave a message with either Ping Wang or Warren Dick. Ping Wang, wang.566@osu.edu |
