How I got into grad school:
GLENE MYNHARDT
As a young girl growing up in South Africa, I was always drawn to nature. My move to the States with my family took a bit of adjusting, but I immediately fell in love with the organismal side of biology. While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology in Texas, I became particularly familiar with insect taxonomy, and fell in love with dung beetles. I retained an interest in systematics while finishing up my Master’s degree, and was immediately drawn to The Ohio State University’s Department of Entomology. I knew that this was the place for me when I visited several faculty members who work on systematics of various organisms. I was lucky to find an advisor who would let me work on scarabs. The immense wealth of knowledge and amazing diversity among fellow students and professors was the reason I chose this department over many. The options for teaching, funding opportunities, and research makes our department unique.
