Our chair serves deans in two colleges (College of Biological Sciences, and College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences), and many faculty members are appointed to both colleges. In addition, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) invests deeply in the department separately from the college administrations of OSU. The department mission is supported by resources provided through the two colleges, OARDC, and Ohio State University Extension (OSUE).

It is through our deep dedication to our common ground that we unite to form a productive and enthusiastic department even as we serve multiple interests and masters. We reach across several divides on the university landscape, bringing back to our department varied challenges. This diversity requires strength, but also rewards our success with greater opportunity.

To reach our diverse goals, the Department of Entomology at The Ohio State University has centers in both the main campus in Columbus and the OARDC campus in Wooster. Within each campus, the department reaches out further into the university by having multiple research loci. The main department office is located in Columbus on the main campus, in Aronoff Laboratory, where many of the faculty have their offices and laboratories, as do department staff and many of the graduate students. Another group of faculty, focused largely on systematics and evolution, are located at the Museum of Biological Diversity west of main campus, while extension faculty are housed in the Extension Entomology Building, also west of main campus. Dr. David J. Horn’s program and the Entomology Insectary is housed in the Biological Sciences Greenhouse Facility adjacent to Aronoff Laboratory. The Rothenbuhler Honey Bee Laboratory, home of the world-renowned Honey Bee Breeding Program, is located west of main campus. Teaching facilities, including classrooms and laboratories are located in Smith Laboratory and the Museum of Biological Diversity. In Wooster, most faculty are housed in Thorne Hall and the adjoining Thorne Hall Annex. Dr. Jim Tew’s apiculture program is housed at the Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI), the campus of which is immediately adjacent to OARDC. Dr. Joe Kovach (Integrated Pest Management Coordinator) is housed in Selby Hall, the home of the Plant Pathology Department. Dr. Saskia Hougenhout (molecular entomology) also has laboratory facilities in Selby Hall. USDA-ARS entomologists with the Horticultural Insects Laboratory, one of which currently has an adjunct appointment in Entomology, are housed in on the OARDC campus in the Japanese Beetle Laboratory.
