Reminder - 2007 Ohio Grape & Wine Conference

- This year, the Ohio Grape & Wine Conference (OGWC) will take place on
February 12 and 13, 2007 at the Shisler Conference Center - OARDC in
Wooster, OH.
- To register, please visit our website at:

- Take advantage of early registration by February 2, 2007 for
discounts (registration form attached)
- This years' conference will have nearly 30 speakers with
nationally-renowned featured speakers including: Jean-Laurent Groux,
Winemaker at Stratus Wines; Jane Baxter Lynn, JBL PR
Strategies; Dr. Tim Martinson, Senior Extension Associate in
Viticulture and Statewide Coordinator of Viticulture Extension at Cornell
University; Dr. Cliff Ohmart, Research/IPM Director for the
Lodi-Woodbridge Winegrape Commission; and Randy Ullom,
Winemaster and Chief Operating Officer, Kendall Jackson Wine Estates.
- Topics will focus on sustainable viticulture and enology approaches used
in the USA including Ohio's experience; marketing hot topics will include
strategies to improve wine sales, off-premise wine sales, and branding; and
several educational wine tastings. Updates from our industry will include
research updates from OSU and presentations on the new Ohio Quality Wine
program, and Tour by Ohio producers to Germany. Pest management practices
and updates will also be presented.
- Pesticide Applicator certification credits will also be available.

The Ohio Grape-Wine
Electronic Newsletter (O-GEN) is entering its third year with 24 issues
posted electronically (for back issues, please check our website:
www.oardc.ohio-state.edu/grapeweb/). As a subscriber to
this newsletter, it is time to tell us about the value and usefulness of
O-GEN and if the information provided has contributed to improve production
practices, increase profits, and reduce costs to your business.
To assist us with the evaluation of O-GEN, you will receive an on-line
survey by e-mail in the next couple of days. The on-line survey has 16
questions, which should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
It is important that you fill out the survey and share your opinion so that
we can improve O-GEN further to meet your needs and expectations.
Please take a few minutes to complete the on-line survey by January 31,

Pruning Workshops

Proper care and pruning of vines will make a considerable difference in
the productivity and vitality of any vineyard. With this in mind, you have
an excellent chance to improve your pruning skills at the hands-on grape
vine pruning workshops and demonstration. Join us at one of two statewide
grapevine pruning workshops (see attached). Presentation will illustrate the
principles of grapevine pruning and hands-on demonstration will follow in
the vineyard. Locations are spread to cover different regions of the state.
Choose the location closest to you and plan to attend one of the workshops.
We look forward to your attendance!
The Workshops are FREE, but pre-registration is required. Bring
pruners and dress for outdoor conditions.
