State
Labor Assistance to Vineyard Managers
David Marrison,
Extension Educator, Ashtabula County
As farm labor becomes an increasing strain on vineyard managers, it is
imperative that managers explore all possibilities to meet their labor needs.
Many vineyard managers may be unaware that the Ohio Department of Job & Family
Services (ODJFS) is available throughout the State of Ohio to help link managers
with migrant labor workforce. ODJFS coordinates the Agricultural Labor
Recruitment System which helps agricultural employers find qualified, temporary,
migrant workers. Agricultural employers can use Ohio’s One-Stop Centers’ Labor
Exchange Service to find workers and receive updates on the regulatory
requirements for hiring labor.
The ODJFS also offers the Ohio Migrant Hotline (1-800-282-3525) which serves as
a clearing house of information on migrant workers. Additional information on
how ODJFS is helping to meet the needs of the Ohio agricultural and migrant
communities can be found at:

Agricultural Recruitment System can be found at:

Grape
Disease Control Update 2006
By. Dr. Wayne Wilcox,
Cornell University
Note from Dr Mike Ellis: Dr. Wayne Wilcox at Cornell University puts
together an annual review of changes in fungicide recommendations and labels.
Dr. Wilcox has graciously agreed to share his review (attached) with us. This is
truly an outstanding piece of information for all eastern grape growers, and I
hope that all Ohio growers read it. Thank you Dr. Wilcox.
