Application Instructions for OARDC Family Scholarship and James & Yvonne Brown Scholarship

What is the OARDC Family Scholarship Award?

The OARDC Family Scholarship Award was created from monies donated by employees and others through the OSU Campus Campaign. This award provides educational assistance to eligible spouses or dependent children of OARDC employees, regardless of location. Annual awards totaling $2,000 are given, with a maximum of $1,000 per award ($500 for half-time students). Award money should be used for tuition, books or other related education expenses.

What is the James and Yvonne Brown Scholarship Award?

The James and Yvonne Brown Scholarship Award was established through a donation from James and Yvonne Brown. This award provides educational assistance to eligible spouses or dependent children of OARDC non-faculty employees located on the Wooster Campus or one of the eight OARDC Outlying Agricultural Research Stations. Annual awards totaling $2,000 are given, with disbursement being determined by the selection committee. Award money should be used for tuition, books or other related educational expenses.

Who is eligible for the OARDC Family Scholarship Award?

You are eligible if:

  • You are a spouse or dependent child (meet IRS dependency qualifications) of an OARDC employee, and the employee has three or more years of continuous service, and is funded 50% or more by OARDC regardless of business location, and
  • You are a full-time student enrolled in a college, university or technical institute, or a current high school graduate enrolled in a college, university or technical institute for the next school year, or
  • You are a part-time student (with a minimum of 6 credit hours) enrolled in a college, university or technical institute, or a current high school graduate enrolled in a college, university or technical institute for next school year, and
  • You carry a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 or above (on a 4.0 basis), and
  • You have not received either of these awards previously.

What are the selection criteria?

Applications are first submitted to the OARDC Office of Human Resources. Human Resources removes names, addresses, phone numbers, and anything that could identify the applicant or employee. Applications are then forwarded to the Selection Committee and recipients are chosen based on the following criteria:

  • Education goals
  • Academic record
  • Additional information provided (i.e. employment, extra curricular activities, hobbies, community service)

  • Complete the application.
  • Attach ACT Score (if applicable) and OFFICIAL transcript from the last educational institution you attended. Faxes or copies will not be accepted.
