BACKGROUND:

Born and raised in the great state of Ohio. During my childhood years, I was raised with agriculture when my dad used to raise hogs and my grandparents had a dairy farm. Also, my parents enjoy planting flowers, and throughout the years the gardens just keep getting bigger and more involved. In addition, I enjoy contributing long hours to tend to the plants, and try new plantings and gardens. Enjoying horticulture as a hobby is what brought me to the Horticulture and Crop Science department in Wooster, Ohio. I’ve been employed as a Student Research Assistant since 2001 and have been actively participating in various research projects. The research I’ve been involved with ranges from apple trees to potatoes. Even though I have a strong background in horticulture, I am majoring in Early Childhood Development (Elementary Education) at the Ohio State Mansfield campus, with a minor in History. With my love of being around children, I want to incorporate my learning experiences from the various research projects into the classroom, so the students can learn first hand about aspects of agriculture and horticulture.

RESEARCH ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Aug 2001-March 2002: Assisted a graduate student with apple berry polyculture to obtain her PhD

  • March 2002- July 2002: Researched sterilizing treatments with grape juice.

  • May 2003- present: Worked with the VP Lab with various projects, including many hours devoted towards the Peri-Urban project.
