Quality Indicators of Research
|
The Faculty
Reward System Guidelines for Annual Performance Review, Promotion, and
Tenure, The Ohio State University, College of Food, Agricultural
and Environmental Sciences calls for data that measure the quality and
impact of the faculty member's research and publications. Commonly
used measures are citedness or the number of times
an article has been cited by other sources, the quality of the journal
in which the scientist publishes, as measured by journal
impact factor, rank, and the article acceptance rate.

Journal impact factor and ranking
-
The journal impact factor is a measure of the frequency
with which the "average article" in a journal
has been cited in a particular year. The
impact factor will help you evaluate a journal’s relative
importance, especially when you compare it
to others in the same field.
The impact factor is calculated by dividing
the number of current citations to articles published in the
two previous years by the total number of
articles published in the two previous years.
Journal publication acceptance rate
(also called rejection rate)
-
The acceptance rate is the percent of articles accepted
for publication of the total submitted to the journal for consideration.
-
At this time, there is no central source for this information.
Some data can be obtained by contacting the publishers.
