Immune response to rotavirus DNA vaccines
NIAID, NIH Grant
(Ended 2005)
(Co-PIs: L. Saif, J. Hermann)
Objectives
The goal of these studies was to develop
rotavirus DNA vaccines that will provide the basis for prevention of
rotavirus infections in humans by DNA vaccination. Gnotobiotic pigs, the
only animal models that can be clinically infected with human
rotaviruses to mimic human disease were used to analyze primary
immune responses to rotavirus DNA vaccines, and to test homotypic (vaccine serotype) and
heterotypic (unrelated serotype) immunity to human rotavirus.
