Q. Where do I obtain the insect parasitic nematodes from?
A. Please check the Suppliers List Section in this web site
Q. Do nematodes control household termites?
A. Although insect parasitic nematodes can infect termites in Petri dishes in the laboratory, there are no published studies demonstrating their efficacy in structures.
Q. Do nematodes control moles in lawns?
A. No, the insect parasitic nematodes do not kill moles. However, the moles feed on white grubs, earthworms, and other soft bodied insects. The nematodes can kill white grubs and some other insects and thereby reduce mole's food source and help reduce mole populations. The best way to control moles is to use Mole Traps. Check your local garden store for mole traps.
Q. Do nematodes control mole crickets and if yes, what nematode species do I use?
A. Yes, insect parasitic nematodes have been found very effective against mole crickets in home lawns, golf courses, and pastures. Two nematode species are effective against mole crickets: They are Steinernema scapterisci and Steinernema riobrave. Only Steinernema riobrave is currently available. Please contact Thermo Trilogy Corporation on the contact information provided in the Suppliers List Section.
Q. Do insect parasitic nematodes harm animals in pastures?
A. No, insect parasitic nematodes do not harm farm animals and can be used control insect pests on pastures where cattle and horses are raised.
Q. Do the nematodes control tree borers?
A. Yes, studies show that insect-parasitic nematodes can control various tree borers if applied correctly. Check the FACT SHEET on LANDSCAPE PESTS.
Q. Do the nematodes control pests in a particular commodity that I am interested in?
A. Please check the FACT SHEETS on specific commodities.
Q. Is there efficacy data on nematodes against a specific pest?
A. Please check the SEARCHABLE DATA BASE.
Q. Are insect-parasitic nematodes safe?
A. Yes, insect-parasitic nematodes are safe to mammals, pets, and plants. There are many studies on this subject. If you are interested in more information, please check the SEARCHABLE DATA BASE.
