Abstract:
Although insect parasitic, or entomopathogenic, nematodes have been evaluated for insect control since the early 1930s, the major push in their development occurred in the past two decades. There are presently more than 80 companies selling nematodes world wide. Twenty three species of entomopathogenic nematodes have been described, and new isolates, strains, and species are being found every year. Nematodes are an expanding segment of the biological control market, but their greatest successes tend to be in niche markets. It is expected that the use of entomopathogenic nematodes will expand in the next century as additional breakthroughs in production, formulation and our understanding of how best to fit them into integrated pest management programs improve
