Abstract: It was studied whether entomopathogenic nematodes are capable of entering adults of Diabrotica virgifera virgifera, and, if so, how rapidly the beetles are killed and nematode progeny is produced. Five Hungarian Heterorhabditis strains and five non-Hungarian Steinernema strains were used. Mortality of D. v. virgifera after 4 days was clearly higher when attacked by Heterorhabditis strains than when attacked by Steinernema strains, but after 7 days most Steinernema strains were also effective against the beetle. Steinernema produced more offspring than Heterorhabditis, but considerable differences in offspring production of nematode strains were observed |
