Major Fields of Specialization:

Primary interests include bio-environmental engineering, field and laboratory studies of solid waste management systems, landfill bioreactors, fracture flow hydrogeology and contaminant transport, design of ground water and soil bioremediation systems, disinfection electrotechnologies, modeling of environmental fate and transport of agricultural and industrial chemicals, environmental geochemistry, geographic information systems (GIS), innovative methods for engineering and technical education, environmental controls for agricultural structures, and rehabilitation and reutilization of old barns

Teaching Curriculum:

  • Modeling and Design of Biological Systems (FABE 625): Autumn Quarter
    • Biological engineering of systems which include microbial, plant and animal components. Applications include bioremediation, fermentation, composting, and bioprocessing.
  • Environmental Controls for Agricultural Structures (FABE 645): Winter Quarter
    • Design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for agricultural structures, including barns, livestock housing, greenhouses, plant growth chambers, fruit and vegetable storage, and grain dryers.
  • Pollution Control and Waste Utilization (ACSM 550): Spring Quarter
    • Management and utilization of animal wastes, fertilizers, pesticides, crop residues, milk, and food processing wastes, and farmstead and urban solid wastes to abate environmental pollution at the urban-rural interface.
  • Design of Waste Management Systems (FABE650): Spring Quarter
    • Rural, community, and on-site wastewater and waste engineering for small or decentralized waste management systems.
