OARDC Recycling FAQ

Q. May I know where we can recycle the glazed cardboard boxes like everyday cereal boxes or pasta boxes etc.

A. Unfortunately, there is no place to recycle glazed cardboard.  I don't like throwing it in the trash at home either, but at this time we have no other option.

Q. Can we recycle thermocoal boxes? Our campus perhaps generate tonnes of those as we receive these everyday along with the reagents shipped to us in these boxes with dry ice.
I know one of the chemical company, New England Biolabs, which ask their boxes back to recycle but others don't. I wonder if we can have facility to recycle these, it will be great.

A. I called the Wayne County Recycling Environmental Specialist's office and they did not know of any place that recycles these boxes.  I also checked the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Recycling website to see if I could find anything there; I could not.

You might try asking the other companies you deal with besides New England Biolabs if they would be willing to take the boxes back & recycle them.  If they are not interested in doing that I would ask New England Biolabs if they would accept boxes from another company.  If they won't, maybe they would share with you where you could send them for recycling.

Q.  Is there any collection program for recycling and\or reusing Styrofoam packing peanuts ?

A.  I found this under Learning Center, FAQ's on the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Joint Solid Waste District website http://www.timetorecycle.org/.  This website & others will eventually be listed under Links on our Staff Council  web page under the Recycling Program.

Q. What can I do with Styrofoam?

A. Unfortunately Styrofoam is not a marketable commodity. Packing peanuts can be dropped off at the Perry Recycling Center in Canton or try a local packaging company listed in the yellow pages. But be sure to call the company before you take your peanuts to them. Large formed pieces of Styrofoam will end up in the landfill if they cannot be reused.

There are several options in our yellow pages under Packaging Service.  Thanks again in your interest to recycle!
