>HEADS-UP: Water Quality Funds - August 3rd deadline
>
>It is our intention to issue an RFP for special projects to be
>funded from end-of-year funds. **Please note the deliberate use of
>the word "intention," and similar wording below ("expect,"
>"anticipate," etc.). Until we have official clearance from USDA, we
>cannot issue the RFP. This communication is to give you a heads-up,
>and to alert those of you who are interested that you may want to
>begin considering a proposal. When we have clearance to issue the
>official RFP, we will alert you again by email, hard copy, and
>perhaps via the CSREES website (http://www.reeusda.gov).
>
>We expect that the RFP will be in the mail by July 1. Prior to that
>time, you may want to request the standard Extension application
>package from the CSREES Proposal Services Branch at psb@reeusda.gov.
>Proposals will follow the usual process and format. A competitive,
>merit review will determine funding.
>
>We anticipate having about $250,000 for such projects, and would
>expect to fund eight to twelve projects from such an amount.
>Preference will be given to one-year projects -- this is not an opening
>for new multi-year projects. Preference will be given to those projects
>that address Goal 1 in the Water Quality Strategic Plan - "Increase the
>delivery of education programs about water quality, water-related
>health risks, and water and waste treatment systems in under-served
>communities." In view of the short time frame referenced above,
>interested parties may wish to begin drafting their proposal now.
>
>Environmental Research September 1st & April 1, 1999 deadlines
>
>The Ittleson Foundation has grant opportunities to support pilot and
>model projects that will test new approaches to solving environmental
>problems, bring about changes through policy research or add to
>working knowledge through applied research.
>
>The Ittleson Foundation funds several program areas including
>the environment. Although pollution prevention is not an explicit
>focus of the program, it falls within the bounds of the Foundation's
>descriptions of current areas of interest. Projects that link formal
>professional competence with community-based efforts are encouraged.
>The Foundation is very interested in programs that provide new
>opportunities to recruit young people and new constituencies into the
>environmental field. Recent grants show an emerging interest in urban
>environmental issues and resource protection. Projects that involve
>more than one area of current particular interest are also
>encouraged. Funding is provided only to tax-exempt organizations.
>The Foundation annual report, grant application procedures, and
>descriptions of previously funded projects are on the Web at
>http://www.ittlesonfoundation.org.
