The Science and Engineering for a Biobased Industry and Economy

Position Opening

Research Associate in Bioenergy

The Department of Biology and Agricultural Environmental Research Station at the West Virginia State University (WVSU) is looking for highly motivated candidate for a Research Associate for WVSU Energy and Environmental Science Institute-funded project for a year to study plant carbon metabolism and bioenergy. The specific focus of the project is to understand the mechanisms of lipid metabolism, regulation and storage in photosynthetic organisms. The project involves biochemical characterization of surface, membrane and neutral lipid metabolic pathway, generation of transgenic/ mutants impaired in lipid accumulation in seed and vegetative tissues, quantification of different lipids (membrane lipids and triglycerides), other metabolites, transcriptomic and proteomic analysis of transgenic/ mutants in response to different environmental stresses.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, experience in analytical biochemistry, particularly lipid identification and quantification, molecular biology and related fields and record of publications. Experience in working with plants and green algae is desired. The research associate is expected to be creative and independent and also work as a team and oversee routine lab management and maintenance tasks. The position involves collaboration with internal and external collaborators.
