SAC Annual Meeting and
Installation of Officers
by Cindy Crawford
The Staff Advisory Council met for their annual
luncheon on October 19, 2001. The Council and invited guests used this
time to: reflect on the past year, celebrate the council’s
accomplishments, say goodbye to outgoing members, welcome new members and
install the 2002 officers.
During the luncheon, Regina Vann announced the new Shirley Brooks-Jones
Citizenship Award for staff and the opportunity for staff members to spend
the day with Dean Moser. The Shirley Brooks-Jones Citizenship Award is a
one time, peer reviewed, cash award of $500. A day with the dean is for
staff to gain a broader understanding of the College of Food Agriculture
and Environmental Sciences. For
specific information on the Shirley Brooks-Jones Citizenship Award and a
Day with the Dean go to http://sac.ag.ohio-state.edu.
New members were welcomed onto the Council. The new members to the council
are: Peggy Lambert from ATI, Gabriella Pearse-Danker from International
Programs, Dana Oleshiewicz from Extension Northeast District Office,
Helega Beke from Plant Pathology, Sandra Kuhn from OARDC Staff Council and
Bill Koshar from OARDC central administration. A new member for Extension
South district is still to be named. Terms for membership to SAC are three
years with the opportunity to serve more than one term.
SAC said goodbye to: Betty Aylsworth from ATI, Mark Erbaugh from
International Programs, Ted Gastire from Extension Northeast District, Ann
Lighthiser from Plant Pathology, Susan Sommer from OARDC Staff Council,
Carol Sowers from Extension South District and Shelley Whitworth from
OARDC central administration. The Staff Advisory Council appreciates the
dedication and hard work of these outgoing members.
SAC sponsor, L. H. Newcomb, installed the new officers. For the 2002 term,
Deb Gallagher will serve as chair, Pat Patterson will serve as vice chair,
Janice DiCarolis will serve as Communications Director and Rita Bowers
will serve as Secretary. Dr. Newcomb shared with the Council and guests,
that he was pleased to see the Council mature as it has and said that the
Council added value to the College.
Bobby Moser, in his remarks, charged the Council with “ …bringing
policy issues crucial to helping us (CoFAES) meet our goals.” and
“Making the college a compelling place to work and learn.”
In the coming year, SAC will continue its efforts to bring staff
issues of importance to administration. SAC also hopes to do it’s part
to continue to make the College of Food Agriculture and Environmental
Sciences a compelling place to work and learn.
