Council Proposes Guidelines for
Staff Rewards
System
by Regina Vann and Janice DiCarolis
In February 2000, Dr. Bobby Moser, Vice President for Agricultural
Administration and Dean, asked the Staff Advisory Council to propose
guidelines to improve the staff reward system in the college. The charge
was to modify the reward system within university parameters, aligning it
with the college vision and faculty rewards.
An Employee Rewards Task Force was formed and on October 26th the
council submitted a report to Dr. Moser based on the following
philosophies:
Rewards:
- are given for achievements that align with the College vision and
reinforce the values of the College.
- must be meaningful to the recipient.
- serve as mechanisms to clearly communicate the value of an
individual or team to the organization.
- convey gratitude on the part of the organization.
- promote the celebration and appreciation of colleagues.
Key components of a reward system include:
- formal and informal modes of recognition.
- support to sustain on-going and novel awards.
- a reliable performance evaluation system that will serve to create
an environment where staff can excel and align performance with
organizational goals
- selection processes that are regarded as equitable.
- mechanisms to ensure implementation within departments and
across the College.
The complete report may be viewed at the council's website:
