Student Opportunities are often available. Please contact our Academic Program Coordinator, Dr. Monica Lewandowski or Dr. Sally Miller for information on potential opportunities. .............................................................. Diagnostic Field Plant Pathology (Plant Path 685) is focused on the diagnosis of plant diseases and identification of causal agents. It is a laboratory–intensive course in which students will learn traditional and modern diagnostic procedures and apply what has been learned to the diagnosis of a set of unknowns. Instructors and guest lecturers will conduct lecture and laboratory exercises focusing on the principle groups of plant pathogens: fungi, bacteria, viruses and nematodes. Field trips will provide opportunities for study of field-level diagnostic practices and for collection of unknowns. It is a 10 day field course (3 credit hours) that is offered every second summer on the Wooster campus. Fruit and Vegetable Pathology (Plant Path 615.01) is co-taught with Dr. Mike Ellis and focuses on integrated pest management strategies for controlling fruit and vegetable diseases. It is offered every second winter and is video linked between the Wooster and Columbus campuses (3 credit hours). Plant Disease Management (Plant Path 603) is a team taught course that focuses on diagnosis and disease management strategies that are being used to manage plant, insect and nematode pests. Dr. Sally Miller teaches the classes on disease diagnostics and organic management practices. It is offered every spring and is video linked between the Wooster and Columbus campuses. .............................................................. An International Short Course also called Pest and Disease Diagnostics for International Trade and Food Security, is a two-week, lab-based short course providing intensive training in classical and modern plant disease and insect pest diagnostics. Training in data management, and Sanitary/Phytosanitary (SPS) issues that affect international trade is also be provided. The course is offered every summer on the Wooster campus.
