The City of Wooster: “Wooster, Ohio, is a mid-sized community of approximately 26,000 people, nestled in the center of Wayne County, home to some of the finest agricultural land in the state. Wooster is blessed with a diverse economy that features notable manufacturing, education, transportation, technology, and healthcare companies, among others.”
An example of activities/sites relevant to the OARDC community:
· The Ohio Light Opera (http://www.ohiolightopera.org/)
· The Wayne County Fair http://www.waynecountyfairohio.com/
· Wooster City School District – Elementary and high school alternatives for OARDC families http://www.woostercityschools.org/district/content-page/schools-list)
· The impressive Ellen Shapiro Natatorium / Wooster YMCA Pool at the Wooster High School for structured or free style activities for individuals and families. http://www.swimmersguide.com/query/Detail.cfm?PoolID=3734

The College of Wooster: “..is an independent liberal arts college, nationally recognized for an innovative curriculum that emphasizes mentored, independent research. Each Wooster senior works one-on-one with a faculty adviser to create an original research project, written work, performance or art exhibit. Founded in 1866, the college enrolls approximately 2,000 students.” http://www.wooster.edu/
The College of Wooster is important for OARDC because:
· Every year, undergraduate students from the College come to our OARDC laboratories to take active roles in collaborative research projects.
· As a resident of Wooster you could audit a class at no cost; visit their website. Some students at OARDC have attended (no credit) classes to broaden their personal interest in Spanish, Chinese, etc., or regularly attend their seminars where often nationally recognized speakers are featured. Note that there is no academic connection with our OSU programs.
· The College of Wooster at times also organizes advanced workshops (e.g., bioinformatics-2011) to which some OARDC graduate students/early postdocs are eligible.
· Their main library is also very nice, and Wooster residents have free access to many resources, including computers and wireless connection. Relaxing atmosphere to get those papers written.
· Their Men’s basketball team is awesome; everybody talks about them. In 2011, they reached NCAA semifinals in their National Division III. http://www.woosterathletics.com/sports/mbkb/index
