Each year, OARDC is offering its OARDC on the Road program to provide assistance to schools experiencing financial hardship. Schools accepted into this program have an OARDC representative come to their classroom and teach a hands-on, interactive science lesson so that kids can learn more about the science of agriculture.
We are now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 school year! Applications are due by December 20. Our lesson this year is called Double-Duty Diapers, and it will involve a hands-on activity and experiments where students will extract the hydrogels from diapers, then see how these polymers can be used for water conservation and to prevent groundwater contamination in today's agriculture and even in their own homes and gardens! This activity is designed to be flexible for a variety of age groups.
