Wooster Entomology Graduate Student Association
CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE I. NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Wooster Entomoloqy Graduate Student
Association (WEGSA).
ARTICLE II. OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE
The objectives of this organization are to:
1. provide a coordinated voice for Ohio State University entomology graduate
students located at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC),
Wooster, Ohio;
2. raise and obtain monetary support to attend professional meetings;
3. provide a support group to help in solving problems associated with being
located in Wooster, away from the main campus and support facilities,
particularly the graduate school;
4. serve as a resource group to incoming graduate students;
5. provide social opportunities for members.
ARTICLE III. MEMBERS
All Ohio state University graduate students in the
Department of Entomology located at the OARDC, Wooster, are members of WEGSA.
The rights of members are to:
1. attend all meetings and functions of WEGSA;
2. vote on all matters, including for officers and committee representatives
as provided in the By- laws;
3. hold office in the organization as provided in the By- laws;
4. serve on various departmental, university, and professional committees as
student representatives.
ARTICLE IV. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The official policy-making body of the organization shall be the Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee shall consist of the President, Secretary-Treasurer, Graduate Student Representative, and Faculty Advisor.
The Executive Committee shall meet as provided in the By-laws.
The Executive committee shall have the authority to determine the general policy of the organization, to be exercised by a vote of the majority of its members.
A vacancy on the Executive committee during the term of office will be filled in the manner provided in the By-laws.
ARTICLE V. PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY
Roberts Rules of Order govern the procedures of meetings in all cases to which they are applicable, except where conflicting with the constitution and By-laws of WEGSA.
ARTICLE VI. BY-LAWS
The purpose of the By-laws is for the proper government of WEGSA.
ARTICLE VII. AMENDMENTS
A. A proposed amendment to this constitution shall be presented
to the Executive Committee at least 3 weeks (21) days prior to its proposed
adoption.
B. The text of the proposed amendment shall be printed and sent to all members
at least 7 days prior to its consideration.
C. This constitution shall be amended only by the vote of two- thirds (2/3) of
the members voting by secret ballot.
D. Unless otherwise provided, all amendments shall take effect at the beginning
of the membership year following their adoption.

BY-LAWS
SECTION I. MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the Wooster Entomology Graduate Student Association (WEGSA) shall be open to any Ohio State University graduate student in the Department of Entomology located at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC), Wooster, Ohio.
SECTION II. RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Members shall have the right to vote and to hold elective office or appointive position.
SECTION III. MEMBERSHIP YEAR
The membership year shall be September 15 through September 14.
SECTION IV. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
A. Any member may be elected to the Executive Committee.
B. WEGSA shall be responsible for guaranteeing open nominations in the conduct
of the election of the Executive Committee.
C. The Executive Committee shall meet when called at the request of the
President.
D. The President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Graduate Student Representative shall
be elected by the members. Said members shall serve as officers of the
organization.
E. Sub-committee chairpersons shall be appointed as necessary by the President.
F. In case of a vacancy of the office of the President, Secretary-Treasurer, or
Graduate Representative, the vacancy shall be filled for the remainder of the
current term by the organization from among its members in an election.
G. The terms of office shall be one (1) year beginning September 15 following
election.
SECTION V. ELECTION OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND OFFICERS’ DUTIES
A. The annual election shall be called by the Executive
Committee to occur during Summer Quarter for the following membership year.
B. Nominations for President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Graduate Representative
shall be solicited from the membership 21 days prior to the election.
C. The names and brief descriptions of the candidates for office shall be
distributed to all members 7 days prior to the election.
D. Executive committee members may serve more than one (1) consecutive term.
E. The basic responsibilities of the executive committee officers include:
1. PRESIDENT
Through the Graduate Student Representative, brings graduate student concerns to the faculty.
Calls WEGSA meetings as needed.
Serves as contact/coordinator with the Entomology Graduate Student Association (EGSA) on the main campus in Columbus.
Presides at all meetings of the WEGSA.
Appoints sub-committees and sub-committee chairpersons as needed.
Coordinates filling of student positions on various departmental, university, and professional committees (see section VI below).
Serves as the informational link between the organization and the faculty advisor.
2. SECRETARY-TREASURER
Maintains minutes of all WEGSA meetings, and distributes written copies to all members.
Keeps organizational and membership records.
Handles correspondence.
Maintains records of receipts and expenditures.
Pays approved bills.
3. GRADUATE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE
Serves as informational link between the faculty and WEGSA by attending all departmental faculty meetings held in Wooster.
Distributes written reports to all WEGSA members of faculty meeting discussions pertaining to graduate student affairs.
With assistance of the President, brings graduate student concerns to the faculty.
SECTION VI. FACULTY ADVISOR
The faculty advisor must be a faculty member of the Department of Entomology, The Ohio State University, located at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, Ohio.
SECTION VII. SELECTION OF STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES TO VARIOUS NON- WEGSA COMMITTEES
A. The need for a student representative on any departmental,
university, or professional committee shall be communicated to the WEGSA
President.
B. The position must be announced to the full membership of WEGSA, and
nominations solicited.
C. If more than one person is nominated for a position, an election is needed to
fill the position; otherwise the President may appoint the representative.
SECTION VIII. AMENDMENTS
A. Proposed amendments to the By-Laws shall be presented to the
WEGSA Excecutive Committee at least 7 days prior to its proposed adoption.
B. The By-Laws shall be amended only by vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the members
of WEGSA voting.
C. Unless otherwise provided, all amendments shall take effect at the beginning
of the membership year following their adoption.
