Ohio is filled with rolling hills and gentle valleys, flat plains and lush forests. The landscape here varies as much as the bodies of water - Lake Erie and the Ohio River - that span the state's northern and southern borders. And each region provides unique challenges for agriculture and the environment. The Outlying Branches of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) are vital to the success of our state's ongoing agricultural research. The branch locations serve as working laboratories for scientists, demonstration sites for Ohio State University Extension (OSUE) agents and specialists, classrooms for outreach education, and learning environments for local growers. Scientists work with plants, animals, soil, terrain, climate and water supply of each region. They study local marketing opportunities and the human and natural resources - to find the best production and management methods for Ohio farmers.
OARDC's branch system is an outdoor laboratory depicting all aspects of Ohio agriculture. Scientists improve animal production and efficiency through better genetics, nutrition and management practices. They increase crop yields with new techniques, and keep insects and disease from harming crops while protecting the environment. They study, learn and teach. The results from each OARDC branch benefit not only farmers, but everyone in Ohio and beyond.
We encourage you to visit OARDC's outlying branches to learn how we're helping Ohio farmers. OARDC's branch managers will give you a firsthand look at what we're doing in the field. And they'll also explain how you can use these techniques to protect the environment. For more information or to schedule a visit to OARDC or its outlying branches, contact OARDC Visitors Center, 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster, Ohio 44691, or call (330) 263-3700. ct-oardc@osu.edu
