Welcome to the Forest Ecosystem Restoration & Ecology Lab

The Forest Ecosystem Restoration & Ecology Lab in The Ohio State University's School of Environment and Natural Resources is located on the campus of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) in Wooster, Ohio. We study the factors that control the structure and function of natural and managed forest ecosystems and use this knowledge to develop tools and methodologies to help restore forest ecosystems.

Current Research Projects

We are currently conducting research on a variety of different topics related to forest ecosystem restoration, from stand development of mixed-oak forests of southeastern Ohio to the role of urbanization and agriculture on riparian forests and stream ecosystems. We also have an active research program in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Seney National Wildlife Refuge on restoring fire-dependent conifer forests of the northern Lake States. Finally, we are the lead institution, along with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Seney National Wildlife Refuge, and U.S. Forest Service Northern Research Station for the Lake States Fire Science Consortium funded by the Joint Fire Science Program.
